The Junior Shooter Program has been a part of the Four Corners Rifle and Pistol Club since the early 60’s.
The Indoor Range was originally built for this program to provide a safe and fun environment for the youth of the Cortez and surrounding communities. The program is funded by 4CRP membership dues, NRA Foundation grant money, the annual Junior Shooter raffle, and generous yearly donations from members of the community.
The Junior Shooters Program has two main goals:
- #1 Gun safety
- #2 Marksmanship
The Junior Shooter Program is free of charge to juniors between the age of 10 to 20 (boys and girls). All participants are required to go through a thorough one-day safety course, that covers everything from gun safety to range etiquette. The club provides ALL the equipment needed (rifle, ammunition, etc.) — at no charge to the Junior Shooters.
Staffed by certified RSO’s (Range Safety Officers) and Rifle Instructors, the Junior Shooters Program starts in late October and runs through early May, with practices on Thursday or Friday at 6:30 as assigned. Our shooters also have yearly competitions between Grand Valley Marksmen, from Grand Junction, CO, and Montrose Rod and Gun Club, from Montrose, CO.
Anyone that would like to become involved in the program, or if you know of someone who would like to join, whether it be as a Junior Shooter or a volunteer, please contact the Junior Shooter Director Norm Bowie by texting 970.739.1486.
