November 2023 – Meeting Minutes

Four Corners Rifle & Pistol Club
Monthly Meeting Minutes
November 28, 2023

The meeting of the Four Corners Rifle and Pistol Club was called to order by Mike Upchurch – President at 6:21 pm.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Jason.

Mike – Lease for Outdoor Range:

Mike has spoken with the authorities that are responsible for overseeing the lease on the Outdoor Range.  The club has a lease for 205 acres, when we only use approximately 30 to 40 acres at the most.  The Forest lease will go away and we will have a recreational lease.  A 5 year lease instead of a 10 year lease is being talked about also.  Roger is concerned that without the extra acreage as a buffer it might be a safety issue.   After a lengthy discussion by the members present it was decided to to wait and see what the State will be proposing after the review has taken place by the Ag of State.  The Alamosa Office wants to protect the Gun Club and the Outdoor Range.

Secretary’s Report – Jenn reported there are 450  members presently with renewals starting soon for the next year.  The Club has enough key cards for new memberships.  Anita made a motion to approve the secretary’s report and Ron seconded the motion.  The motion passed.

Treasurer’s Report:  Anita updated the members present on the treasurer’s report for the month of November.  A copy of the report is attached to the meeting minutes.  Charles made a motion to approve the Treasurer’s report.  Jenn seconded the motion and the motion passed.

Thank You:  The Dolores County Fair sent a thank you note for the Club’s support of their Fair this year.

Roger – So far the Pistol League has 20 shooters signed up with 2 new shooters for the single gun shoot.  It was suggested another email needs to be sent out to inform club members about the pistol league and remind shooters to come and join the fun.  It has also been brought up that several of the shooters that normally shoot are going to be having surgeries soon, which makes attendence lower.

Charles – The estimates for the two on demand heaters, labor to put them in and the electrical work needed to be done to put them into both bathrooms is $2540.00.  Luna Plumbing and Cortez Electric are the contractors Charles has contacted.  Jenn made a motion to approve the estimates for the heaters and the electrical work to be done as soon as possible.  Ron seconded the motion and the motion passed.

Norm:  Practice is going good and everything else is going good.  Anita talked about her visit to the Jr. Shooters Program last week and how much she enjoyed watching all the participants.  She encouraged everyone to come and watch, it’s at 6:30 on Thursday’s and Friday’s and  the way Norm has it organized makes everything really calm.  Norm needed to get some supplies for $134.28 and there was no need for a motion.

Members Fees:  Fees for memberships will increase to $65.00 on January 1, 2024.

Outdoor Range:  Sunday the gate was locked open again.  It was open when Anita and Mike got there.    Shot Gun use at the outdoor Range will only be allowed at the Cowboy Range and more signage will need to be added for the new shooters that don’t know about the Cowboy Range.  It was also suggested by the members present we have a range cleaning day 3 to 4 times a year.  Also a day is needed to be taken to look at signs – fix and rebuild and replace if need be.

Volunteering:  There was a discussion by the members present on getting people volunteering a certain amount of time per year for part of their membership.  This issue will be discussed more at other meetings.

Rodger:  Grant season is here and he was thinking about Solar Panels and electric out at the Outdoor Range as a possibility for this next grant.  A new roof on the indoor building was mentioned too.  We will need to get bids and estimates for each project.

Hunter’s Sight In:  A summary of the Hunters Sight in is attached to these minutes.

Jenn made a motion to adjourn the meeting and Anita seconded the motion and the meeting adjourned at 7:44 pm.
